As the sun sets slowly in the west,

...we bid you a fine farewell.

Some of you already know but after three great years in Los Angeles, Whitney and I are moving to New York April 1st. That's like next week.

The reason behind the big move is Whitney's job is calling her home to the mothership in New York and, well, I've been ready for something new for a while. That and you don't have to ask me twice to move to New York. So we're leaving the sun-splashed land of make believe for the greatest city in the world. Both of us being former residents of the City, I think I'm safely speaking for both of us when I say we're anxious to get back.

On Friday, I'll be saying goodbye to the fine folks and great surfers of Deutsch. I'll miss them. Then it'll be off to the wilds of freelance and perhaps someday soon, that dream job I've been looking for my whole life. Obviously, if you have that position and would like to fill it with arguably the finest writer of our generation, let me know. My work's available for view there on the right. Have a look-see.

For the past few weeks people have been asking me a lot if I'll miss LA when I leave. The short answer is yes, I will. But the best response I can give them is that to compare New York to LA is like comparing a vacation to the beach to a vacation to the mountains. They're both fantastic destinations with their own merits yet they're both radically different. It's literally comparing apples and oranges.

All that being said, I'll miss LA. I've really enjoyed living here. Now I'm down to my "lasts": my last fill-up at my gas station, the last sixer at the corner bodega (well maybe not last), my last car wash (did see Tim Robbins there today though), and now pretty much everywhere I go I know it's for the last time—for this time, anyway.

Most of all, I'll miss the weather. It really is amazing. And I'll have to savor each of these last six LA sunsets and their warm, glorious LA light.

But it's time.

So start spreading the news, as they say.

And if you're in the area and wanna buy some sweet-ass stuff, we're having the mother of all garage sales this Saturday in an effort to downsize into our New York apartment.

Thanks y'all. We'll have to do something now that I'm officially in town. This week will probably bring loads of moving and unpacking and disorder, but soon!
